The work examines the extent and sources of police ineffectiveness in controlling crime. It assesses the quality of justice, and declining public confidence in the criminal justice system. Police reform efforts, as well as sources of cynicism among members of the force, are analysed.

Emma Rose is awesome

I loved this book and I really have to get the other parts, but every single book that I have read of Emma's has been mind blowingly great. Seriously all of her books that I have read has been good. I highly recommend her to anyone who loves kinky romance with just enough story line to not be just about sex. I love her books and I intend to get them all. :)

Cassidy Carmichael worked hard her whole life. She had to work just to pay the bills and stay alive. She had dreams though and those dreams are what kept her going. All she ever wanted was to live comfortably. She wanted to be like everyone else. Going to movies, out to dinner and just having a bit of fun. Her move to Los Angeles was supposed to give her the break she needed. It didn't. While talking with her friend Sherry one night, she found out how Sherry earned her living. She suggested Cassidy give it a try. Cassidy wasn't sure she could do it, but decided to give it a try.

Wild and sensual, this book will make you HOT! I enjoyed reading about Cassidy and Sherry. It was an interesting and fun read. Certainly this book could be the start of an evening of romance. Well written and characters who are well defined, this book is everything you could want in an adult read.

I found no issues with this one.

Stripped!

I just read the first book of stripped. I thought Cass was a wonderful character. She worked hard to build a dream to become an actress for five years and was working at an iHOP on weekends for rent money while trying to get a decent paying acting job but was barley making the rent. Her friend sherry invites her to a party as a plus one for her current boy friends buddy for the weekend. They arrive in a limousine to pick her up for the party. One of the men asks her if she does the same work sherry does on the side and says she's got and would make more money than she could handle which leads her to o finding out sherry is a stripper on the weekends. Cass thinks about that all night and the more drunk everyone gets the more she likes the idea. They move the party inside after having way to much to drink and Cass finds out what is like to let loose with her the companions and what a ride. I cannot wait to see what happens next!!

Getting to the Heart of Class Meetings

Henderson gives us the finest book on the theological and practical underpinnings for this institution that became to hallmark of early Methodism. Church leaders and scholars often point to the Wesleyan class meeting as the best model for how small group discipleship can be done. But, almost as often, key points of Wesley's purpose and method are overlooked (or ignored), causing people in the church to miss some of the most significant elements of genius in what Wesley put into practice.
D. Michael Henderson's book is about going back to the roots of the class meeting in order to genuinely understand what the early Methodists were doing and why. This book would be of particular use to those interested in contemporary small group ministry -- or those with an interest in Wesley or early Methodism.
Superb. This book gets my highest recommendation.

Almost there

I purchased this book largely based on the product description that mentioned the author discussing how to take Wesley's method and apply it today. I was disappointed that the author did not develop this side of the work at any depth. This is a significant drawback of this otherwise useful book.

On the positive side, I am new to Methodism and Wesley's ministry, so I found this very enlightening as a historical read about the how and why Wesley's method had the massive impact it did. I recommend it at that level, and if you would like to draw your own applications on how to apply this method. Last of all,I felt this work read more like a thesis than a guide to applying the concepts as the writing style is very formal.

Restoring the "Method" to Methodism

In the early 21st century church, there's a lot of interest in small groups. We've discovered that people are more likely to "belong" and "remain" in a fellowship when they are essentially connected to others in smaller, more intimate settings.

So far, so good. What we may not have "discovered" was actually formulated several centuries ago by John Wesley --- whose outline for spiritual growth centered on the use of structured meetings and personal accountability. "How doth your soul prosper?" is among Wesley's guidelines as an opening question for group sharing.

Today's effective and powerful Celebrate Recovery movement (launched at Saddleback but spreading everywhere) understands and applies these key principles to persons who want to overcome addictions and break the power of past habits. Yet is this not the case with everyone who finds new life? All of us need new patterns of health and righteousness; all of us need to break old patterns that are unhelpful and ultimately destructive.

Henderson has written an excellent explanation of the history, theology, and psychology of small-groups, as explained by Wesley.

Love this book! Always so thorough with explanations and helpful with examples. I've used this curriculum since 7th grade and still am in love with it. Some would describe it as a rigorous curriculum, but if you keep up with every lesson then everything's easy and readily divided into small, simple pieces. Most helpful math textbook.

Sensei is brilliant.

I read this book before I enrolled in any classes with Dr. Rogers, before I ever moved to Hilo, Hawai'i to persue a Japanese Studies major. My opinion may still be biased, but I was highly enamoured from the very beginning, before even meeting or talking to him.

I really love the selection of authors. Some are well-known, although these pieces are not. Others are not well-known, at least in America. Sensei chose material that would be largely unfamiliar to an American audience, which suits me just perfectly. If I wanted things I'd already read, why would I bother? I had read none of these stories, however, and was unknowledgable with more than half of the authors.

The translations are highly readable. I'm impressed at what a good writer Sensei is. As I haven't read the Japanese originals, nor am I immediately capable of reading them, I can't comment on their accuracy, however, I am Dr. Rogers' student, after all, and I know his fastidious habits.

One of the best features of this text is the large introduction Sensei has penned. Interesting, insightful, readable and charming, it shows that Sensei is not just a translator and re-writer but a writer himself, and as I said above, I was delighted by his skill. I'd happily devour an entire book of his essays on Japan. I have so much to learn from him!

I couldn't recommend this any more highly. While the stories are readable and entertaining in their own right, they'll also give you insight into Tokyo, the main thrust of the book. Their organization by geography of the city is a cute bonus.

This anthology of short stories is a brilliantly selected set of works. I was introduced to this novel because it was a required text for Rogers-sensei's Japanese Literature class. I opened the novel and was immediately intrigued; for every short story, Rogers includes an introduction that is very helpful in understanding the text. Rogers includes well-known authors such as Kawabata Yasunari and Ihara Saikaku, but also some pretty amazing writers I have never heard of. My favorite translation is Mishima Yukio's "Fountains in the Rain." I heartily recommend this short anthology to anyone interested in understanding Japanese culture through literary works.

This book is HOT!

I was waiting for that book like ages! And to be honest I thought it will never get released! I love all her books and it doesn’t matter what genre it is. Paranormal, NA? I will read them all. The deadly Beauties is my second favourite series by her (nothing can be compared to Sterling boys :] ), and FINALLY I got Gage’s story!

I loved him the most in Deadly Beauties. I know that Alyssa was meant for Kane, but come one! Gage? Dark, dangerous, tattoos and piercing in the right places? Hell yeah! I was seriously sad for him, that he didn’t his happy ending in the main trilogy, but now? I think it’s perfect. Kimber is the ONE for him.

Gage is a Dark User, has a lot of power, that not many people are aware of. He is dark, powerful and nothing can stop him when he wants to protect those he cares about. And for him, Kimber becomes the most important person. In a short time. She is infuriating, stubborn, reckless and so perfect for him. Since the first meeting after 2 decades the passion and pull towards each other is hard to deny, on both sides.

Kimber is tough and stubborn. She doesn’t like that every single man in her life tries to treat her as the child she once was, when found by Alyssa. She is trying to prove to ever yon that she doesn’t need to be sheltered as she is able to take care of herself. And then she meets Gage. She remembers him as the one, who was rejected by Alyssa, but that changes quickly when they see each other. He is tempting, sexy and trustworthy. At the beginning she is feeling weak next to him, but when their feeling grow, she feels simply safe with him.

And what I love also? DICE! God! He was making me laugh so hard that I was either snorting or crying! Literally! His obsession is amazing and I just read some of his parts few times, as they were so funny! :D

C.M. Owens done it again. The book pulled me in from the first page, and I love that there is more to come, and some things I have so not seen coming! The ending left me panting for more. And I hope she won’t leave us without more of them.

Section I explores developmentally appropriate practice, including an in-depth section on the theory and research of play as well as discussion of early learning standards in curriculum development. Students also learn how well-known curriculum approaches fit into the principles of developmentally appropriate practice. Subsequent comprehensive sections, which discuss the physical, social/emotional, and cognitive/language domains, individually address appropriate practice for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and primary-aged children. The text goes into great depth about each of the target age groups needs for physical, social/emotional, and cognitive/language environments.

The play section is well developed and provides excellent examples and theory

Gestwicki's DAP is an excellent early childhood text. I think it is better than the text I currently use.

About the Author
Carol Gestwicki was an instructor in the early childhood education program at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina, for over 30 years. Her teaching responsibilities have included supervising students in classroom situations as they work with families. Earlier in her career, she worked with children and families in a variety of community agencies and schools in Toronto, New York, New Jersey, and Namibia (South West Africa). She received her MA from Drew University. She has been an active member of the NAEYC for many years, including making numerous presentations at state and national conferences. She has been a Fellow in the Early Childhood Leadership Development Project at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and she has been associated with the T.E.A.C.H. Model/Mentor program. Her other publications include more than two dozen articles about child development and family issues and scripts and design for 14 audiovisual instructional programs. She has three other books on topics in early education published by Delmar Learning: Developmentally Appropriate Practice: Curriculum and Development in Early Education, Fifth edition (2013); Essentials of Early Education (1997); and Authentic Childhood: Exploring Reggio Emilia in the Classroom (2002). Currently, she writes a regular column titled "Grandma Says" for Growing Child.

A Near-Perfect Supplement To Bredekamp/Copple's Jewel

For many early childhood professionals, Bredekamp and Copple's DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE PRACTICE (DAP) is the bible for those who teach young children. For others, their breakdown of the concept remains convuluted, complex, and difficult to implement in many school settings. This is the gap that this book heroically attempts to fill...and succeeds on many levels.

As a scholar on homeless young families, I was first familiar with Carol Gestwicki's excellent HOME-SCHOOL RELATIONS. It comes to my delightful surprise to find her having penned this gem. The arrange of the book from the beginning is right on target: by developmental domains.

After a well written first section beginning with defining DAP, connecting it from the start with play, and closing with how both determine curriculum, Gestwicki goes to the all important physical domain taking the reader into the familiar theories and child developmental ideas yet keeping DAP as the underlying context through which to understand each concept. In fact, each section's chapters are arranged developmentally (from infancy to early elementary children). She continues this same approach through the social/emotional section and language cognitive section.

What you ultimately get in this book is a combination of a close examination of DAP, a child development overview, and a curriculum text. Its an amalgamation that truly captures the essence of DAP: teaching from a developmentally perspective, not from a standards-based educational (SBE) perspective.

I would be eager to see how this book works in an early childhood curriculum course. It does not necessarily cover early childhood approaches to the traditional areas (Math, Science, Literacy, etc.), only has a scant one chapter on the familiar curriculum models (Montessori, High Scope, etc.), and does not really cover the conventions of a traditional early childhood classroom (small group, large group, etc.).

Still, DAP is much more than these conventions; this book offers what DAP truly tries to capture: nuturing children developmentally based on their strengths, weaknesses, and cultural background. This can take on many many forms. It begins and ends there that idea.

The book was a required text for my Curriculum Content class. It helps very much so in regards to what's developmentally appropriate. It's a good read that's filled with valuable information. The price to rent it was also reasonable.

A terrific reference. Anyone who wants to be the best child care teacher they can be should own this book. It's my Bible for developing and maintaining my developmentally appropriate teaching style.
