Explains how signals are identified, the speical receivers and antennas required, as well as some of the cloaking techniques used to deal with hostile signals. Introduces new systems concepts such as digital processing, supercommutation, and wide bandwidth noise detection methods. Provides working charts, diagrams and equations to facilitate configuration of systems. Suitable as an aid in proposal preparation. About the Author
Stephen E. Lipsky is the President of Bynetics, an intellectual property consulting firm. His broad experience includes serving as vice president of American Electronics Labs (now BAE Systems), where he was responsible for the profit and technical performance of a $55 million electronics warfare matrix skill center. The ALR-67 and APR-9 radar warning systems were typical of the wide range of receiving and jamming equipments under his responsibility. He was director of advanced systems for General Instrument Corporation, where he helped develop the ALR-66 RWR, the Sub DF system, and the R-1910 receiver. He was president of Polarad Electronics, Radiometrics Division, where he developed the WLA-3, and was the project engineer at Loral Electronics for the development of the ALQ-53 Monopulse DF Receiver.
The holder of thirteen patents, Dr. Lipsky is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and a charter member of the Association of Old Crows where he received a silver medal for his work on direction finding and warning receivers. He holds BEE and ME degrees from New York University, College of Engineering, a Ph.D. from Drexel University and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Signal Officer’s School.

The bible of microwave DF system design

Microwave Passive Direction Finding presents the theory and practical aspects of the subject in a readable format. As an electronics warfare system engineer I find it most valuable as a reference manual on the subjects of amplitude and phase DF techniques. Related topics are included to provide a complete treatment at the system level. I highly recommend the book to any engineer engaged in the business of microwave DF subsystems.
