Review
"A brilliant expose of the hidden power that Freemasonry has in the past and still is exerting so successfully to de-Christianize America. This is must reading." -- Father Vincent Miceli, former professor at the Gregorian and Angelicum Universities, Rome, Italy, October, 1989

"Fisher knows how to do research and how to weigh facts. Those skills give his work a sense of balance and sobriety that make it as persuasive as it is alarming." -- Michael Schwartz, The Wanderer, America's oldest national Catholic weekly, April 12, 1990

"I recently obtained a copy of Behind The Lodge Door through my library book-loan program, and needless to say, I could not put the book down. It is very enlightening. I would like to pass some of the knowledge in the book on to my four grown children, and hence, my grandchildren." -- A reader, Center Line, MI, March, 1998

"One of the most important books I have ever read." -- Stan Monti, Radio Liberty, May 20, 1998

"This study is particularly valuable, not only for its thoroughness, but also for the sources on which it rests. -- Peter D. Felner, OFM, Miles Immaculata, Rome, Italy, December, 1989

From the Back Cover
"Behind the Lodge Door is at once an in-depth and probing analysis of Masonic activity in four principal areas of influence, especially as they relate to the United States, but it is also an overview of the Masonic fraternity in general that will enlighten and inform the reader and make a perusal of this book most worthwhile. Those four areas are: 1)the religious education issue in the U.S.; 2) opposition to the Catholic Church; 3) the molding and directing of national political and social policy; and 4) how the Masons attract their members.

"But further, the author who documents thoroughly everything he writes touches upon a host of interesting topics, such as the birth and rise of Freemasonry, its roots in the ancient mystery religions and gnostic cults, the Catholic Church's early and traditional condemnation of the Craft, its scope and influence in American national social and political life, its opposition to the practice of religion, its activities in various other countries (Italy, Germany, France, Japan, China, the Philippines, etc.), its rapprochement with the Catholic Church (especially during the 1960s), how it is in a very real sense a religion of its own, how it is politically extra-national, and many others.

"This book shows how for over 150 years the political policy of the United States was marked by governmental cooperation with and encouragement of Christianity in the schools and in social and political life. However, the situation changed dramatically beginning in 1941 when the Supreme Court for the first time in its history became dominated by justices who were members of the Masonic fraternity. It was a dominance that continued for the next 30 years, and resulted in the imposition of an alien secular humanism on American education and upon the country's political life."

Well Documented

Clearly those who claim this book is full of unsubstantiated hearsay have an axe to grind.
The author does his best to document the fact which isn't an easy task when you consider the subject matter.

Not for the Credulous...a Very Mean Book.
By A Customer
This book is one of the most extensively documented books about Masonic conspiracies I have read. Having said that, it is almost entirely innuendo.
What the author does in this book is akin to saying the Catholic Church is behind the FBI espionage scandal in which one of the bureau's most trusted counter-espionage agents, who is also a member of the Catholic lay order Opus Dei, is alleged to have been a mole for the Russians for over twenty years. Of course, the agent's membership in Opus Dei is not proof of the Catholic Church's involvement in any espionage against this country. The whole idea of Opus Dei being an espionage arm of the Catholic Church is preposterous and offensive.
But, that sort of argument is exactly what Paul Fisher uses against the Freemasons in his book. With Masonic membership of a few individuals, and quotes garnered from here and there, he manages to create a trail of innuendo and guilt-by-association.
One curious thing Fisher does to make his book sound like a clarion call to all patriotic Americans is to make it seem like the Vatican has been a supporter of republican government and individual liberties all along through history--and that the Masons have not been--when the reverse is actually true. As pointed out by Margaret C. Jacobs in "Living the Enlightenment" (Oxford University Press), "early condemnation by Church authorities of Freemasons fixated almost entirely upon their custom of holding elections."
Another curious thing about this book is that the author bases part of his case against the Masons on the writings of an Abbe Barruel who wrote extensively about the Freemasons in the early nineteenth century. Scholars, like Margaret C. Jacobs, however, report that Barruel's writings are largely dismissed by scholars as paranoid and that he is responsible for generating the conspiracy myth that Freemasons started the French Revolution. Fisher's use of sources is selective to support his tendentious argument. Since Fisher uses early conspiracy theorists for documentation, it is no surprise that he ends up with a tale of frightful conspiracy.
Fisher's book ends with an attempt to demonstrate the evil inherent in Freemasonry by comparing a quote from a Masonic source with one from Adolf Hitler. Presumably, Fisher hopes to leave the reader aghast by the similarities. What, of course, he does not manage to tell the reader is that Hitler's SS hunted down Freemasons, shaved their heads, and murdered them because the Masonic principles of equality and tolerance for all religions was incompatible with Nazism. With having alleged to have done such extensive research into the topic of Freemasonry, and having served in the military in WWII, it is hard to understand how Fisher managed to miss Hitler's intention to exterminate anyone who belonged to a Masonic Lodge.
His book carries an endorsement from a priest who writes, "Paul Fisher knows how to weigh facts." Indeed. That endorsement makes one wonder whose reputation is really damaged by Paul Fisher's farrago of innuendo and fearful conspiracy theory? I do not think it is the Masons. Sadly, this book, bearing the imprimatur of a priest, ends up making the Catholic Church hierarchy look like a source of foolish and paranoid conspiracy theory.
Behind the Lodge Door is not anti-Masonic. It ends up being, perhaps inadvertently by the author, anti-Catholic.

Excellent Book!
By Eric B. Borgman
At one point I had to remove all of my reviews from Amazon because the harrassment became so much! This all happened after I posted a postive review of this book by Paul A. Fisher. The date of this review shows the date of the original review, however, I am posting this new review on August 21, 2010.

I found this book to be extremely interesting, truthful and well researched. What is so powerful about this book is that a vast amount of information in it was actually taken from Freemasonry's own books, magazines and writings. Basically, these "craft" fellows are indicting themselves while factual history does the rest.

The book is a real eye openner and when all these facts are put together, it actually explains a lot about history and current affairs. Mr. Fisher, proves that Masonry is, in fact, a religion. It shows how members will lie, cheat and pressure people to get their way and will do almost anything to keep their antics secret or to discredit their opponents, which they consider their enemies. I found this out in a very real and somewhat frightening way when I started being harrassed here at Amazon and even on other websites. I was accused off this website at Wikipedia of hating Jews and Freemasons. Many of my reviews were stalked and lies were written about me. One of the lies can still be seen on the forum page under my film The Deserter. I'm not saying that every member of this group behaves like this, I am saying that I have experienced some of the tactics that Fisher wrote about in his book.

Frankly, I'm perplexed why so many people would want to be a member of a group with so much to answer for in their beliefs and behavior. A very good book that every library should contain.
